Into the Highlands: on the Sprengisandur road, April 18

Saturday trip with Michal and Kasia. We went up from Selfoss to Sprengisandur road, just to the Highlands. Icelandic interior, loads of snow, sunny weather in the south. We escaped from gloomy Reykjavik to winter paradise. Arrived to Vatnsfell hydroelectric power station in the Highlands, not far away from my favorite Landmannalaugar, but we couldn't do last 26 km to get there.

Interesting experience. I had never been to so far the Highlands in wintertime. We had seen an empty many miles away from any civilization and lonely petrol station with a sign saying that the next chance to tank petrol will be after 234 km. That's Iceland. Beauty of emptiness, excellent use of renewable energies, endless interior... And winter is still there, white and warm. Even though Sumardagurinn Fyrsti (The first Day of Icelandic Summer) is on 23rd of April, just coming in few days. Let's see what the weather will be like..

And Tinni was at the conference about education this time, together with his Biophilia team. That's Björk's project on science education:

Biophilia is a multi-media project, comprising a studio album, apps, a new website, custom-made musical instruments, live shows, a documentary, educational workshops, and a live film. Björk has collaborated with app developers, scientists, writers, inventors, musicians, and instrument makers to create a unique exploration of the universe and its physical forces – particularly those where music, nature, and technology meet. The project is inspired by and explores these relationships between musical structures and natural phenomena, from the atomic to the cosmic.
