In June we have two long weekends in Iceland so it's great opportunity to travel more outside Reykjavik. That's why on previous weekend (exactly Sunday-Monday, June 8-9) I went with my friends to magically beautiful Snaefellsnes peninsula :))))
And I convinced them to camp somewhere in nature so we could go there for entire 2 days!!! :)
Finally we went in 2 cars, only Polish people. I was travelling with Michał, Francuz and Paweł, and later on Jacek with Asia and Daria came to join us at Stykkishólmur.
Michał is one of my closest friends here and he invited me to go somewhere for a trip together during the weekend. We decided to go to Snaefellsnes peninsula and I proposed to stay there also for the second day as I could get the tent from my close friends, Iza and Tomek. And the rest of our colleagues was also willing to join the trip. That's a big fun to travel in a bigger group!
We did the first stop at Borgarnes to have a coffee and buy some food at the petrol station as all the shops where closed for 2 days in a row! We stopped at the N1 station like always. As we decided to go only the night before so it wasn't time at all to do shopping the previous day. So we had a short chat with a friendly Polish woman working the bakery at Borgarnes. I like the view from that place, 3 big mountains at the other side of the fjord look like huge pyramids of one of the Pharaohs. Incredibly beautiful! :)))
And ten we set off to Stykkishólmur, the first fishery town at the north coast of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We decided that this time we will concentrate more on sightseeing and start from the northern side of the magical land.
1. Stykkishólmur town with a cosy colourful port and a majestic cliff rock :) Visit at the local swimming pool!
2. Astonishingly beautiful bay with geothermal activity and oyster catchers nest :)
3. Kirkjufell mountain and falls, magical for photographers and Grundarfjörður town.
4. Camping in wilderness, somewhere before Ólafsvik, landscape resembling Landmannalaugar mountains wit the colours and shapes. Only two summerhouses and nobody around for many miles around.. with beautiful view to the ocean, just by the river, amazing!
5. Ólafsvik, outdoor museum, lava fields and mossy houses
6. Sexhóll, old colourful volcano by the ocean
7. Djúpalónssandur beach, one of the highlights of Snæfellsnes peninsula wonders. The picturesque beach is covered by countless little black stone which were shaped by the non stopping forces of the ocean and the wind.
8. Snæfellsjökull, a 700,000-year-old stratovolcano with a glacier covering its summit in western Iceland
9. Arnarstapi, a small fishing village at the foot of Mt. Stapafell between Hellnar village and Breiðavík farms on the southern side of Snæfellsnes
10. Rauðfeldsgjá Gorge, secret entrance to the centre of Earth
11. Little mouse in the Icelandic forest, friendly creature joined us to eat some crisps with us. Probably blind with one eye, very cute creature :)
It was fantastic journey and I didn't suspect that I would see Snæfellsness so soon again. In 2 weeks time I went again to that magical place during my ring road tour around Iceland in July!!!!!
So be ready, my next photo story from Iceland coming soon ;))))
