Reindeers and south-east Iceland story :)

So I am going to continue my travel story for you... almost in order: south, east, north, west and south again :)

On the 3rd July, after seeing beautiful shore near Vík í Mýrdal village, we continued to go in the east direction and stopped at Skaftafell National Park (will come back to it in the next post).

I was there with my friends last year in July so I could be a guide and  show them most interesting sites only in 2-3 hours, as we were planning to sleep near Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. I already have written about this amazing place in a separate post. And took more then hundred photos there.. :))

Coming back to Skaftafell, on our way we stopped at the amazingly looking lava field and later on in the place where lava ground was completely covered with beautiful and incredibly soft mossy carpet :) We were having a lot of fun there, jumping like kids! Jump, jump, jump..!!

And after the visit in Skaftafell, when we were far away from any civilisation, heading north through fabulous fjords.. in the endless land near  3-headed scary mountains we were astonished by the beautiful surprise! A herd of reindeers walking in the long row, very close from our car. They weren't afraid of us that much, maybe somehow interested, so they came quite close.. only one car of Belgian tourist parked near by.. Amazing landscapes, blue lupins, enormous meadow and majestic mountains.. WONDERFUL MOMENT :))) I was so thrilled and delighted.. fragile and beautiful creatures, probably quite young with small horns.. REINDEERS! Just like from a fable or Santa Claus' sleigh.. ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING MOMENT! I spotted them for the first time.. it's very rare view in Iceland, many of my friends haven't seen them yet! Reindeers were brought from Greenland and adapted well only in the eastern regions..

Then driving on the gravel part of the main Icelandic 'highway', ring road no 1 in the deteriorating weather conditions. Amazing fjords, mountain slopes resembling frozen green waves made out of frozen lava rocks.. Surrealistic objects in the sky, rainbow, waterfalls, sheep jumping over the road.. Just Iceland!!! Welcome to mysterious green land.. :)

Just a short stop at the petrol station in Egilsstaðir, a small town in eastern Iceland. Recharging batteries, eating french fries and watching part of the world cup football match..  more photo stories coming soon :)
